We design community resilience …

… through eco-social innovation grounded in everyday life.

The Neudorf Institute explores how social, ecological, and technological practices can strengthen wellbeing, sustainability, and local capacity. We work with communities to create tangible transformations through design, learning, and shared experimentation.

Project

The Resilience-Kit as a tool for local Communities

We are currently planning … a hybrid physical–digital tool designed to make everyday knowledge visible. It will capture micro-contributions to local challenges—like resourcefulness, repair, care, or workarounds—and it will translate them into modular, transferable strategies. The goal: to strengthen collective resilience through shared, situated learning and co-created design responses.

Event

Feldgespräche / Field talks I

Big ideas often start small: sun-bleaching a stain, fixing dinner from scraps, or setting up a shared school run. This one-day gathering brings together neighbours, researchers, and local makers to explore everyday innovation—and how to nurture it.

Join us for work groups in the morning, shared lunch, a collaborative mailbox installation in the afternoon, and a campfire afterwards.

Hosted with Kunstuniversität Linz and New Design University.

Project

3000m2 Prototype

A real-life experiment in eco-social living and building: this tiny house project explores everyday innovation, design literacy, and shared resilience on a rural plot in Neudorf.

A local institute with global connections

The Neudorf Institute is embedded in a rural community and shaped by everyday concerns like energy, food, education, and care. We work closely with local people who are experts in these areas through experience. At the same time, we collaborate with international researchers and designers to reimagine innovation through shared projects, dialogue, and experimentation.
